FAQ
Yes, they are. They only have a different name: Dermalize is distributed worldwide, while D-Lize PRO is distributed in the United States of America only, but they are indeed the very same product.
No, it can’t. In no way does Dermalize Protective Film pull out any ink from your tattooed skin: neither the polyurethane film nor the hypoallergenic glue contained in the bandage, to make it stick to the skin, pull out any ink from your tattooed skin; Dermalize Protective Film simply holds the extra fluids that the body does not retain (including ink), exuded through the skin, and it supports the healing of the wounds, thanks to the enzymes contained in the exudation. We suggest that you should remove and replace the protective film 3 / 4 hours after the tattoo was done, so that liquids do not dry up and removal of the film is easier.
You should not apply Dermalize Protective Film once scabbing has formed. The adhesive film sticks to dry skin and you risk the scab sticking to the film when the tattoo wound is not fresh. This could lead to pulling out the scabs when you remove the film and would so create new wounds. You could damage your tattoo as a result. We suggest you should wait to try Dermalize Protective Film on your next tattoo and follow the instructions carefully to guarantee a correct healing of the tattoo. You may switch to our Dermalize Artcare line to finish your healing process. Our products will assist you especially if your tattoo is scabbing.
We do not recommend exposing your new tattoo to the sun. For tattoos to look vibrant, even when fully healed, it is important to use sun protection when being exposed to the sun for a prolonged time. We recommend using Dermalize SUN 50 sunscreen protection as it has proved to be very efficacious after using Dermalize Protective Film. Dermalize Protective Film does not contain any kind of sun protection.
Yes, you can shower normally. Dermalize Protective Film is waterproof and will stay put on the skin even when immersed in water. Indeed, we regularly suggest to our clients that they should refrain from bathing in the bath-tub. To avoid the adhesive bond from weakening, excessive exposure to water should be avo
There is no need to worry, Dermalize Protective Film will lock in those fluids produced by the body and will help to reduced scabbing. These fluids will sometimes even include some color of the ink, which is completely normal and doesn’t mean that your tattoo is fading. In some cases the body generates larger quantities of fluids. If you see fluids starting to drip from underneath the film you should remove the film, wash the area with water and possibly Dermalize Art-Care’s unscented Soft Wash soap and let it dry to apply new film. Make sure to leave about 3-5 cm of the film in contact with the dry undamaged skin around the tattoo for it to adhere properly.
Once you have removed the last application of Dermalize Protective Film (after the suggested period of 6-7 days) it’s not necessary to apply any more film to the tattoo. At this point the top layer of the skin will start to dry, and in most cases this will look as if the tattoo is covered with a dry layer of skin. This top layer of skin will start peeling and flaking. Don’t be alarmed if these flakes contain some ink, this is perfectly normal. It’s VERY IMPORTANT to not scratch, pick or peel the skin as this could cause new wounds and scarring. It will all be done in a few days and the color of your tattoo will start to look as bright as the day you got it. Keep it moist with unscented lotion, preferably Dermalize Art-Care‘s moisturizing products, for the duration of the healing process.
Dermalize Protective Film is made of polyurethane and acrylic glue, so no animals are indeed exploited/used in its production. However, in order to release the product as a class 1 Medical Device into the public market, medical standards required also the following testing:
1) Test for in vitro cytotoxicity (MTT cytotoxicity test) – IN VITRO TEST only
2) Test for skin sensitization (Maximization test) – NON-INVASIVE TEST conducted on animals only once
Dermalize Protective Film can and is indeed used after microblading sittings. It is a medical film commonly used in post-surgery treatment, which is slightly more breathable and flexible, so more suitable for small or large scale tattoos.
Please note that after a microblading setting Dermalize should be replaced more frequently during the first 2 days. It is better to change the film 2 or 3 times a day in the first day, depending on how much exuding fluid your body is actually releasing under the Dermalize Protective Film. In the next days, when the skin starts being dry, make sure to apply a minimum amount of ointment on the microbladed area. To ensure the area is moist and help alleviate the bandage sticking we recommend the use of a non mineral oil ointment like Dermalize Velvet Cream applied thinly to the tattoo before applying Dermalize. We recommend using Dermalize Art-Care products as they have proved to be very efficacious after using Dermalize Protective Film.
Dermalize Protective Film can and is indeed used after tattoo removal sittings. It is a medical film commonly used in post-surgery treatment, which is slightly more breathable and flexible, so more suitable for small or large scale tattoos. As indicated by the dermatologists we rely to ourselves and that are currently using our product, please note that after laser tattoo removal Dermalize Protective Film should be replaced more frequently during the first 2 days. It is better to change the film 2 or 3 times a day in the first day, depending on how much exuding fluid your body is actually releasing under the Dermalize Protective Film. In the next days, when the skin starts being dry, make sure to apply a minimum amount of ointment on the treated skin area (cream or lotion that your doctor will prescribe or our Dermalize Velvet Cream) and put the protective tattoo film on top, in order to be protected during the day.
Remember just a very little bit of Dermalize Velvet Cream under the bandage and just on top of the tattoo removal area only (just a very tiny tiny bit of it, which must not stay on the surface of the skin).
Please also remember to take into account the kind of laser technology that you are using:
-
if you use PICO lasers, in theory you should not get any blisters and so Dermalize Protective Film can be used exactly as on a regular tattoo.
-
if you use Q-SWITCHED lasers, you will likely get blisters (sometimes also pretty large ones), so Dermalize Protective Film can be used, but only by making sure that a suitable amount of Dermalize Velvet Cream is placed between skin and protective film; this is intended to avoid any tearing of the blistered skin, when removing the bandage. When the blisters start drying, it is advisable to let the treated area breathe as much as possible, preferably without any cover on top.
Please be advised that we regularly suggest to our clients that they should refrain from bathing in the bath-tub, going to a sauna or they should avoid swimming-pool-water or sea-salted-water for at least 2 or 3 weeks after the tattoo was done. This is due mainly because both sea water and swimming pool water are good collectors of bacteria and germs, and also because salt and chlorine tend to discolor freshly done tattoos.
Dermalize Protective FIlm is indeed waterproof, but the glue of the bandage will hold as long as it is exposed to the the relatively small amount of water of a shower and without too much friction. If immersed in water for hours, or associated to the physical movement of surfing, it will not hold (unless maybe it is applied all around a limb – fully around your arm or leg).
Hand in hand with avoiding salty or chlorine water, tattoo collectors should also avoid exposing a fresh tattoo to the sun. Also when the tattoo is healed and even later on in time, applying a sunscreen protection is always and definitely advisable. We recommend using Dermalize SUN 50 sunscreen protection as it has proved to be very efficacious after using Dermalize Protective Film.
We recommend to use Dermalize Protective FIlm during your work out session as it works well as a barrier against any pathogens that you can easily come across with in an environment like a gym.
However, if you sweat a lot, Dermalize Protective Film will not hold. In those cases we suggest using an elastic bandage or elastic net around it to keep it in place.
Usually, a tattoo takes about a week or two to heal. To assure the best results in the healing process we recommend you to reduce or change your workout routine during this period of time. You might consider to avoid certain exercises that involve contact with your tattoo to elude rubbing or scratching.
We recommend the use of Dermalize Protective Film for a period of 7 days all together. After that period your tattoo should be already 90% healed and perfect.
Certainly! Dermalize Protective Film is ideal for big tattoos, you can adapt it to any size by cutting various pieces of the roll to fit the tattoo. The film can be overlapped in areas that are not straight and will perfectly adhere to any part of the body.
The first piece of Dermalize Protective Tattoo Film can be replaced after 3/4 hours, the exact time will depend on the amount of fluids that the wound exudes: this will vary from person to person.
In most cases people choose to wear the first patch of Dermalize Protective Film for the first 24 hours, although we recommend to change it whenever it gets dirty, too loose or full of liquids.
When removing the film, make sure to carefully wash the area with suggested Dermalize Soft Wash and water and gently dry the tattoo.
Apply a thin layer of Dermalize Velvet Cream on the tattoo to ensure a moist healing under the Dermalize bandage. This will also make it easier to remove it later on.
On the second day, repeat the operation at least twice during the day.
From the third day any further application of Dermalize Protective Film can be kept on for a variable amount of time, depending on the client’s need, changing it at least once within 24 hours until the tattoo is completely healed. The total suggested use of Dermalize, covering all applications, is between 6 and 7 days. At the end of the healing process, make sure to hydrate the skin with Dermalize Velvet Cream or any moisturizer of your preference.
If you experience heat or pain from your tattoo, please remove the Dermalize bandage and check in with your tattoo artist or doctor.
The ideal thing would be to keep the tattoo protected during the whole healing process (about 6/7 days) by changing it when necessary, that is to say, when it comes off, when it gets dirty, when there is too much bleeding inside, when you feel like washing your tattoo and replacing the film, etc.
No, usually it doesn’t. The adhesive component of Dermalize Protective Film will only stick to the dry skin around the tattoo; it won’t adhere to the weeping area of the tattoo wound. If used as intended, on a tattoo that is moist, it is not possible. To ensure the tattoo is moist and help alleviate the bandage sticking to the tattoo we recommend the use of a non mineral oil ointment like Dermalize Velvet Cream applied thinly to the tattoo before applying Dermalize Protective Film.
No worries, simply wash your tattoo with your fingertips (do not use a washcloth) with some warm water and a non-scented soap. We suggest Dermalize Soft Wash as it will not irritate your tattoo. If washing with soap does not totally remove the glue then use Dermalize Velvet Cream to loosen the remaining glue.
Allergic reactions are very rare. A small number of people with very sensitive skin are intolerant to the medical acrylic glue contained in Dermalize Protective Film and could show a faint redness after the first application of the film. This intolerance is normally manifested with a noticeable redness along the perimeter of the film within a few hours from its application. If the intolerance is mild, the benefits of Dermalize Protective Film are greater and therefore it is advisable to continue with the regular procedure. The redness should disappear in a short time, once the product has been removed and the skin is washed with Dermalize Soft Wash or any a mild soap. In case you experience abnormal skin irritation, a rash or other symptoms of an allergic reaction you should discontinue the use of Dermalize Protective Film. In such cases we recommend to wash the tattoo with plenty of water and Dermalize Soft Wash or any mild soap 3 / 4 times a day. After each wash let the skin dry and then apply a thin layer of Dermalize Velvet Cream. Continue with this procedure for 7/8 days until the tattoo is completely healed. At the end of the healing process, moisturize the skin with a moisturizing cream. We recommend using Dermalize Art-Care products as they have proved to be very efficacious after using Dermalize Protective Film.
IMPORTANT: Dermalize Protective Film should never be used on infected skin.
